Bad pad thai in Thailand? Same same-but different
Day 2: Bangkok
After spending a magical day and a half in a swanky hotel, we moved ourselves over to the backpacker ghetto of Khao San Road. I was ready to try the street food, juices, and people watch. Did I mention I love food/eating?
Setting our bags in the hostel, we set out to find some lunch. We stopped at a little place that was filled with backpackers. Looks good. Ordered some pad thai because when in Rome, right? Delicious. Best pad thai I’ve had so far in my life.

Fast forward 5 hours.
Belly grumbling, we decided to eat at the same place. Hey, they have other things on the menu. Plus the food was $1.00. How do you beat that?
Unfortunately, they were no longer serving food so we went across the road. So close- you think the food would be the same quality right ? Hell NO.

I ordered pad thai at the new place, because lets face it, when I like something I will eat the hell out of it till I get tired of it.That’s my sti-lo.
Unfortunately, at first bite, I could tell this was not the same. In fact, it was downright disgusting. Of course, Mike tells me I will always find something to bitch about. Thats just me. So I made him try it. ‘Nuff said. He promised to take me somewhere else and make it up to me.
2nd attempt at food
This street vendor looked promising enough. Others were eating at his stall, and watching him whip up some fresh food made me sure he had the stuff to make a great pad thai. I decided to give it a chance.
This man promised me good Pad Thai. He lied.
After walking for 2 more blocks carrying my 2nd round of pad thai I chucked it in a garbage bin. Damnit!!! How do I get bad pad thai in Thailand? Apparently, pretty easily.

LOL, bad Pad Thai is certainly found in and around the backpacking ghetto of Khao San. I’ve shared similar experiences to you. For someone who has been to Bangkok many times I would suggest to consider eating outside of here for a much better dining/snacking experience
I think that’s what I will have to do…have you been to the WTF bar? I found it and its amazing…Manchego cheese, fantastic mixed drinks, gallery above…I think I might keep it a secret.
sorry to hear. that’s quite an upset. did you go back to the first place and eat a ton of the pad thai when they were serving food again? bonus points for using the term “sti-lo”
