The tallest waterfall in the world- Salto Angel (Angel Falls)
As we have recovered more photos from our dead memory card, we now have some photos from our journey to Angel Falls. Nevermind the photos, the memories exist in our minds-that is until we’re old and memory loss kicks in, which is why I am glad to have a few photos.
Our journey stretched over 3 days. While we arrived on a tiny 5 seater Cessna (which was spectacular) we really enjoyed the time spent on the canoe, exploring the rivers, taking in the waterfalls and tepuis, and holding on for dear life in said canoe when we went over small rapids.
Having the best seat on the canoe had its downfalls- I think I got splashed more than everyone else and I protected my camera by wrapping it in 3 plastic bags and hiding it under Mike’s shirt.
The views on the canoe were ahh-mazing. I struggled with keeping my life vest on since it was stinky and I kept insisting I could swim, Olympic style.
We had heard about the possibility of bad weather when we arrived at the waterfall, and that we might not even see it at all if it was very cloudy and rainy. It is a 30 minute hike uphill and we just hoped we’d get to see something.
Although cloudy, the rain stayed away and we sat around taking pictures of the waterfall, craning our necks up to take it all in. I’d never seen the tallest or highest or weirdest of anything before.
Now, I was sitting in front of the tallest waterfall on this planet. And I realized that it didn’t matter if it was the tallest, shortest, or widest.
Because Venezuela had turned out to be a beautiful surprise.

beautiful!!

Thanks Andi! It was an interesting journey getting there for sure! Especially when we figured out we had to sleep in hammocks and I was not having it since I paid extra for a bed so they piled up a mattress on top of the wooden beam seats and told me to make sure to sleep in the middle, or I’d roll off onto the floor! Good times.
GORGEOUS! The lake and waterfall are breathtaking, I can hardly imagine what it’s like to be there in person.
I hate stinky life vests, too.

It’s in South America, yes in Venezuela. The tallest. South America is beautiful and I am guessing so is South Africa.
