Theatre in Manchester

Manchester is a city full of amazing theatres and brilliant playwrights. The talent here is simply astounding and you’ll find locally written and produced shows among the more mainstream and well known productions at every theatre. The C Project

This is a somewhat different yet moving production. If you have ever suffered from or know someone who has or has had cancer, this show is one that will not only resonate strongly, but also help raise money for a worthy cause. Written by some of Manchester’s most talented playwrights and featuring the regions best actors and directors, it is a series of short plays written especially to raise funds for The Christie hospital. Showing on the 9th and 10th of May at The Lowry.

The Johnny Cash Roadshow

Fans of the legend that is Johnny Cash will love this show. Showing at the Palace Theatre on the 16th of October, it transports you to a real Johnny Cash concert thanks to the astounding accuracy of the bands representation of the performances and of Cash himself. With songs from the 50’s right up until his last recordings, it’s a night that will have you tapping your feet to the beat.

Shrek the Musical

For a larger than life musical extravaganza that all the family will love, look no further than Shrek the Musical. Join Shrek and his unlikely sidekick donkey as they try to rescue the feisty Princess Fiona from the clutches of a fire-breathing dragon. Throw in some of the best loved nursery rhyme and fairytale characters, catchy show tunes and a fabulous cast and you have the recipe for an amazing show. You’ll find Shrek the Musical showing at the Palace Theatre between the 2nd of December and the 11th of January 2015. A great choice if you have the kids in tow.


If you’re a fan of traditional dance styles, you can’t miss the 20th Anniversary tour of Riverdance. This spectacular celebration of Irish dance has captivated the hearts of everyone since it was first seen at the Eurovision Song Contest in Dublin in 1994 and continues to delight and amaze. Beautiful costumes and fantastic choreography make this amazing show a must see. Catch it at the Manchester Opera House between the 7th and 12th of October.

War Horse

The internationally acclaimed, multi award winning production of War Horse arrives at The Lowry between the 23rd of July and the 20th of September. Based on the novel by Michael Morpurgo it tells the powerful story of Albert and his beloved horse Joey and the obstacles they overcome to be together. Seeing this show is to see theatrical mastery at work – it is quite simply amazing. With technical wizardry and moving music and songs, it is a production not to be missed.
